Beautiful Love – Jazz Standard

Playin a nice jazz standard… Maybe next time make it more swinging and punchy – i just
did a simple ballad arrangement… Looks like I flubbed the Bb7#11 chord at 0:48 oh well…
And yes it would send better if i mic’d the amp instead of using camera mix and also
use a hollow body… its not perfect 🙂

You have a lot to share and you do a good job! What is wrong with a tele a start?

Simple but very melodic. It will go over very well. Weddings are usually not full of musicians so hopefully no one will request anything insane, like Paganini. If there is a bachelor party remember, it’s like Vegas, what happens at the party, stays at the party. Good luck and best wishes, Greg

Beautiful song, yet one can’t help but wonder how much better it would have sounded, especially the highs, if played on a good jazz guitar…L5, or even an ES175 rather than that Fender looking solid body that just tinned out all of the notes on the top two strings.

YES SHOULD BE PLAYED ON JAZZ BOX.. BUT I WANTED TO TRY ANYWAY ON THE SPEAR RTST -CLAUDE

like that I will try to learn it for my wife of 44 years. And I don’t know why she stayed if I was her I would have left long ago. What can you say about a biker and a half ass guitar player. How ever I don’t ride any more, she stopped that even no more dives. Do not check my English it may not be right. GOOD LUCK AND MAY GOD BE WITH YOU.

Reply
Wavatar Bob

Really nice piece. You make it look so easy. Wonder how it would sound on a hollow body?

Reply
Wavatar Jack

Any way you could NOT use a pick to avoid those occasional sharp single strings jumping out, or a more mellow setting on your amp/guitar ?

Reply
Wavatar James

Ah ha that’s Jazz alright. I remember when I first attempted to
Play a Stevie Ray Vaughan number named after his wife Lenny.
Well that settled me on the depth of Jazz and gave me latitude.
I like your site and do read your posts.
I know she will love your rendition of a beautiful love.

Reply
Wavatar Andreas

Very nice, but the sound is very thin. A jazzbox would make this so beautiful

Wavatar Tony Holt

Nice one Claude. Personally I liked the tone. All the best for your wedding and future happiness.

Just a point on the fingering. The chord changes i.e. jumping to the shape would be more precise (and easier) if you adopted a more “thumb on the back of the neck” position for the left hand. This is similar to the classical guitar position. It makes the barrre notes clearer and gives more flexibility. It allows the fingers to hit the fingerboard in a more vertical manner and gives better access to all the notes.

HEYWell of course it would have sounded “better” if played on a jazz rig, and Claude CLEARLY stated that in the arcticle about the song and video. And by the way, i thought it sounded just fone the way it was. Beautiful. Great job, Claude – she will love it. Happiness to you both !!

You’re right , played it with my epi-dot-studio and miced my behringer V-ampire 2-12 amp and it really sounds great , and seeing as how my wife has passed away , i’ll just play it for my frrets ! They love the guitar , they will sit up on their hind end and bat the strings and cock their little heads to get all of the sound . Sometimes one will bat the strings and the other will press her body up to the amp ! I guess they like the sound and vibrations at a low volume ! High volume scares the crap out of them , they go running !!! thanks man , Jack DeWayne Dutton

Dude! Please don’t be so critical of yourself! I truly believe that the “Intent(ed)” of the music, is what should matter here. It seems that you played the piece with EMOTION…now there is something you should talk about in your lessons bro! Good Luck from Don E. Boy, in Texas!!!

Hi Claude I really like the way you play the bar chords along with the finger work and I have to say you did an A-1 job. I know she will Love it

Reply
Wavatar Beth

Claude, I think you should stick to rock n roll. Your jazz technique is too stiff and mechanical. You need to feel it from the heart and play it that way. Nice tune though.

IT’S A WORK IN PROGRESS, THANKS FOR WATCHING 🙂

I apologize for being so critical the other day. I wish you all of the best in your marriage. She’ll love it, or anything you play, because it’s for HER! I know that I could not play the rock licks that you play nearly as well. Guitar playing is not a contest. Didn’t mean it that way. Should have been a little nicer, in the vein of Beth, who posted a kinder, yet negative reply.- Charley Bevell
