Of course she does! She is as elegant as a queen and as beautiful as any Hollywood glamour girl. You young people don’t seem to realize that age does not diminish beauty, but enhances it. Youth does not determine beauty, it merely demonstrates how much more experience you all need to attain true beauty. Happy Birthday Miss Ida and may you have dozens more.

    Claude,
My great aunt turned 100 in 2000 and since has gone to be with the Lord. She had amazing stories to tell as she was a school teacher in a one room school and drove a Model A into the 80′s.
Get a recorder and video your Aunt when she tells you the stories of her growing up. This is the real American history, and you will be glad you did it. Something you can share with your children and grand children.

Cherish your Great Aunt. Get a video recorder and record your Aunt’s stories of her growing up. This is the real American History as told by someone that lived it. You will be glad you did and it will be something important to share with your kids and grandkids.. An everlasting tribute to your Aunt.

One hundred is a very special birthday. Can you imagine all the changes that one has experienced since their birth? They would be like a living encyclopedia. Two very good friends of mine turned 100 years old a couple of weeks ago and a big celebration was held at the nursing home, where they share a room. Another party was held for them at a famous restaurant, here, in town, but unfortnately, my husband and I were travelling and couldn’t attend the festivities.Congratulations to both of you!

Congratulations on your Great Aunt’s Birthday, Ida.

I have a 1981Yamaha Six Steel String Acoustic Guitar, I bought it brand new and it is still in great condition. I used to play this guitar everyday in 1981. I ended up putting on the acrylic finger nails and could no longer play guitar. I decided to take off the nails and learn to play again. I lost allot of my guitar playing skills. What do you recommend me to do?

    Reply »

      John Somebody

Try experimenting with open tunings, just to get the feel of the strings under your fingers again, the feel of the string positions in relation to other strings, and maybe the feel of a pick.. Producing nice sounds without so much effort to hold chords accurately, will make it easier to carry on regaining dexterity. But that’s mainly if you improvise, and not really care to begin with, if you reproduce what someone else has done. The main thing is, to enjoy discovery, and rediscovery.

John is absolutely correct. Just play and enjoy yourself. You would probably cover some ‘old ground’, but of course, that’s the joy of it all, isn’t it?

The easiest way to get back into playing without having your fingers killing you is to play for five minutes several times throughout the day. The breaks in between will give your fingers a chance to start to rebuild your callouses back up and it will give the muscles in your hands and fingers a chance to regain the strength they need to play again. Just leave your ax out on a guitar stand so you can grab it for five minutes as you go by. You’ll be surprised how fast this works and you ‘ll be able to increase your practice times very soon. Good luck!

Man,you just blew my mind….I noticed clamjammers had RI on the truck…so I googled it..Galilee,RI. I grew up in CT, used to spent ALOT of time in Galilee, and Point Judith. The boat to Block Island leaves from Galilee..As a kid in the 60″s, we’d buy a bag of fresh calm cakes and a coke for .50 and go sit on the docks and watch the ferry come in. Great days. I have been playing guitar since 1965, I play more than ever, and always learn from your stuff…thanks…music is it’s own reward…. google billy bober, I have some music posted.

You must have felt the way the author of the below did. You, Aunt Ida are Happy, and so am I.

“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy.’ They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”

She looks wonderful! Please let her know that someone from Louisville is happy for her! I don’t know if I’ve met anyone who’s lived 100 years. Learn all you can from her, but don’t forget, you’ve got a lot of guitar knowledge you can share with her! ;^)

What a cool event Claude. Family is so important in this day and age. My mom said your aunt is a vintage beauty. What a neat way of complimenting those ladies who are just a few years older than us.
